Best Boutique Hotels in St. Pete–Clearwater for a Unique Summer Staycation
Think you’ve seen everything St. Pete–Clearwater has to offer? Think again. This summer, I’m uncovering unexpected places to stay—boutique gems full of charm, character, and thoughtful details that make all the difference.
From historic inns with art-filled suites to beachy retreats that feel like a secret, each stay will have you seeing the area in a whole new way.
The Coconut Inn in Pass-a-Grille
Pass-a-Grille is one of those beach towns that still feels like a secret. And if you’re looking for the perfect place to stay, The Coconut Inn is it. The inn is just steps from white sand beaches, a heated pool (a rare island find!), and charming 8th Avenue, home to local restaurants, shops, and galleries.
Built in 1923 as the LeRoy Motel, the property was thoughtfully transformed into the Coconut Inn in 2008. Today, it has 11 inviting rooms with coastal decor, fully equipped kitchens, and plenty of coastal character.
I stayed in the Sunset Studio and loved catching Gulf breezes and water views from the balcony. When you're not relaxing poolside or wandering down to the beach, you can take advantage of complimentary paddle boards, beach cruisers, and even a “Fun Cubby” stocked with chairs, towels, and umbrellas.
On-site parking makes it easy to check in and immediately shift into vacation mode. And if you're lucky, Baxter the cat — a beloved local celebrity — just might be there to welcome you.

The Saint Hotel in St. Pete Beach
For a bold, stylish stay in St. Pete Beach, The Saint Hotel makes a statement from the moment you arrive with its vibrant murals, flamingo floats in the pool, and a playful energy that runs throughout the property.
I stayed in the One Bedroom King Suite with a pool view and loved how every room was filled with local art and colorful touches that reflect the area's creative spirit. The pool is the heart of the hotel, with DJs spinning on weekends and even some weekdays.
One of my favorite features? The Saint sets you up for a perfect beach day with pre-packed wagons filled with pink towels, chairs, a cooler, umbrella, and games. It’s those thoughtful extras that make a stay memorable.
No need to venture far for great food—82 Degrees, located right on-site, serves up a fresh new menu alongside water views. Don’t miss the Scampi with Sun-Dried Tomatoes!

The 1888 Hotel in Downtown St. Pete
Step into St. Pete’s past with a stay at The 1888 Hotel, named for the year the city welcomed its first train—arriving with empty freight cars and just one passenger.
Following an extensive renovation, this boutique hotel has old-world charm mixed with modern comforts. The lobby sets the tone with its moody, tropical aesthetic with lush greenery, ambient lighting, and cheeky neon signs.
The suites are really special, with multiple unique layouts to make the most of the space in this historic structure. I stayed in the Honeymoon King with a full kitchen, and it felt instantly livable. The kitchen wasn’t just for show—it came stocked with cookware, dishes, and even spices, making longer stays a breeze.
Throughout the property, you’ll spot playful references to Salvador Dalí and original pieces by local artists, leaning into a streetwise, neo-surrealist vibe. Be sure to explore the two murals tucked around the back of the hotel.
Parking is hassle-free. After check-in, grab your included parking pass and head a few blocks over to the Museum of the American Arts & Crafts Movement garage—it’s free. From there, you’re steps from downtown’s best restaurants, shops, and museums. And if your feet need a break, the Downtown Looper stop is just about a block south.

Hollander Hotel in St. Pete
Hollander Hotel is one of downtown St. Pete’s most eclectic places to stay—full of personality, character, and surprises around every corner. And while it embraces its historic charm, what really sets it apart is the long list of amenities.
Step inside and you’re immediately greeted by playful decor, from mirrors on the ceiling to vintage accents that nod to the city’s past. Don’t miss the photo-lined staircase between the lobby and first floor—it’s a stroll through local nostalgia.
You’ll find everything you need right on-site: a gym, a full-service spa, a cozy coffee shop, and The Tap Room Bar and Grill, which opens onto a lively terrace. It’s a go-to spot any day of the week, but Mondays are especially popular thanks to the martini specials. The pool and poolside bar have their own vibe too, often hosting themed parties and weekend events that attract both guests and locals.
That quirky, bold style carries into the rooms too. In my King Suite, the headboard stretched nearly to the ceiling—a bold, unforgettable touch. If you’re looking for a funky boutique hotel with the perks of a much larger property, the Hollander is it.
